Superintendent's Welcome

Mrs. Forsmann

Cottonwood School District enrollment for 2012-2013 is up from a year ago. We are projecting an enrollment of 403 students K-12. Our enrollment at the start of 2011-2012 school year was 387 students K-12. Our district has been consolidated into two schools with an elementary K-6 and a junior/senior high 7-12. We vacated an elementary building in 2011 and just this past summer moved out of our Kindergarten building. Both buildings are for sale. Our junior/senior high school curriculum provides students with opportunities to take online courses, technology, industrial arts, art, music and drama. We pride ourselves in having diverse electives available for our students. Our junior and seniors have opportunity to take college level courses and get dual credit for them. We are proud to say that a number of our students have graduated from high school with enough college credits to be considered sophomores when they transition to post secondary. Our extra-curricular options provide students with opportunities to excel outside of the school day as well. Students participate in football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, track, softball, baseball and cheerleading. Knowledge Bowl is an option for both junior high and high school students. We continue to provide a superior education for our children. This is made possible by the support of our school board, community and parents. We are looking forward to another great year.

Learning Environment Survey

During the spring of the 2010-2011 school year, Cottonwood School District administered a Learning Environment Survey to all parents with children in the district.  Thank you to all parents who participated.  Survey results are listed by school.

What we learned from the surveys:

  1. Continue to communicate with parents in as many mediums as possible:
    • Newspaper
    • Email
    • Newsletters
    • District website and PowerSchool
    • Notes home with children
    • Phone calls
  2. Parents are satisfied with the quality of their child's teacher.
  3. The schools keep parents informed about their child's progress.
  4. Children are safe in our system.
  5. Opportunities are made available for parents to participate in their child's education.
  6. My child's school offers a wide enough variety of courses and activities to keep my child interested in school.

Please look through the surveys and call or email if you have comments.  Rene' Forsmann, Superintendent (208) 962-3971 or rfors@sd242.k12.id.us

HOW WE ARE IMPROVING
This report is a summary of some indicators of the performance of our district.  No single report can tell the whole story of our school’s educational program or the people who work and learn here.  We encourage you to find out firsthand by visiting our schools.  If you are a parent of one of our students, we invite you to take an active role in your child’s learning because studies show that when parents are involved, students do better in school.

Cottonwood School District provides parent access to grades, attendance, and account status through PowerSchool.  Interested parents can contact the district office to get their access ID and password.  Access to PowerSchool on the web can be found at the district website:  http://www.sd242.k12.id.us

OUR SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
Our goal is to provide a place for students to learn without distractions and concerns for safety.  We closely monitor activities on our campus and offer comprehensive programs to prevent alcohol, tobacco, and substance abuse.  We address bullying and harassment on a daily basis by following up on reports and providing training and workshops for students as well as staff.  As required by state and federal laws and rules, we collect, monitor and report on crimes and substance abuse incidents on our campuses and at school activities.
