Superintendent's Welcome

Mrs. Forsmann

School year 2011-2012 will be full of changes for students attending the Cottonwood School District.  We are in our second year of our three year plan to remodel and restructure our school district.  The elementary building previously located at 907 Lewiston Street has been vacated and is for sale.  For school year 2011-2012, students in Kindergarten and First Grades and those students who attend Center for Discovery,  will be housed in the “Kindergarten Building” located across the street. Students in Second through Sixth grades will be in their new home at 1916 E. Street, (formerly the middle school).  Second and Third grade students are housed in the lower section of the building with Fourth through Sixth on the upper floor.  Our final phase of the project will be adding 4 rooms and a restroom facility to the elementary school (former middle school).  School year 2012-2013 our elementary school will be complete with our  Kindergarten, Center for Discovery and Grades One through Six all in one location.
Our high school lower floor has been remodeled and will house the Junior High students school year 2011-2012.  Junior High students will have their own space and schedules.  Additional curricular opportunities are available such as Shop, additional Art, Music, and Physical Education.  The junior high will take advantage of a new Science room, a Computer Lab with 24 stations, a Teen Living area equipped with stoves, microwaves, refrigerator, sinks, and a washer and dryer unit.
We will continue to provide a superior education for our children.  This is made possible by the support of our school board, community and parents.  We are looking forward to another great year.

Rene’ K. Forsmann
Superintendent

Learning Environment Survey

During the spring of the 2010-2011 school year, Cottonwood School District administered a Learning Environment Survey to all parents with children in the district.  Thank you to all parents who participated.  Survey results are listed by school.

What we learned from the surveys:

  1. Continue to communicate with parents in as many mediums as possible:
  2. Newspaper
  3. Email
  4. Newsletters
  5. district website and PowerSchool
  6. notes home with children
  7. phone calls
  8. Parents are satisfied with the quality of their child's teacher.
  9. The schools keep parents informed about their child's progress.
  10. Children are safe in our system.
  11. Opportunities are made available for parents to participate in their child's education.
  12. My child's school offers a wide enough variety of courses and activities to keep my child interested in school.

Please look through the surveys and call or email if you have comments.  Rene' Forsmann, Superintendent (208) 962-3971 or rfors@sd242.k12.id.us
