Superintendent's WelcomeI am honored to serve as superintendent of the Cottonwood Joint School District #242. We have the finest staff, students, parents, and community members of any district around us. Our district and schools have met adequate yearly progress benchmarks and our graduation rate is 100%. We have excellent support from our community as we passed a maintenance and operations levy by 61% this past year. Our teachers have taken a cut in pay, our maintenance staff has been reduced by one person, our administrative team is managing the district office and three buldings with 2 1/3 staff members, and our building budgets have been reduced. Despite all of this, our enrollment has increased for the 2010-2011 school year and our year is off to a great start. As we move into the new year and look to the future, we will be moving forward with our plan to close our elementary school building school year 2011-2012. Our junior high will move to the high school creating a junior-senior high school. Our elementary students K-6 will be housed at 1912 E. Street which is where our current middle school is located. For the 2011-2012 school year our Pre-School/After School Program, our Kindergarten and our 1st grade will continue operation in the annex across from the current elementary school. This will give us another year to remodel and expand our building located at 1912 E Street to accommodate K-6. Closure of the current elementary building is due to our enrollment numbers. When our district was consolidated in 1970-1971 our enrollment K-12 was 840. School year 2010-2011 numbers show 421 students. With the decrease in enrollment and the overhead costs of maintaining and managing a building, the decision has been made to close the elementary and remodel and expand the current middle and high schools. We will continue to provide a superior education for our children. This is made possible by the support of our school board, community and parents. We are looking forward to another great year.
Mission StatementWe will create, deliver and responsibly manage opportunities for all children to learn every day and become contributing citizens. These opportunities will be developed in partnership with the community and will be provided in a safe and supportive environment utilizing current technology. School Motto: Every Student Learning Every Day Our Values: Respect, Dignity, Honesty, Responsibility and Teamwork |
